Hello! I am Jamie. I am a CMPC (certified mental performance consultant), professor in the field of Kinesiology, researcher, and a yoga instructor. I use my strengths in all these areas to help you find your healthy, happy, and best performance.
I have my master’s and Ph.D. in Sport and Exercise Psychology from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and Michigan State University respectively. I was a college field hockey player at the University of Michigan where I studied psychology, and prior to that a three-sport athlete in high school. I became interested in the field of sport psychology after breaking my foot in college and I have since used my background in sport, education, and research to help clients find improvement and satisfaction in their sport experience.
I have been teaching in the field of Kinesiology for over 20 years. My focus is obviously sport and exercise psychology, but I have also taught (or teach): motor learning, motor development, nutrition, wellness, research seminar, sport sociology and more. I understand the importance of navigating education and athletics and I help student-athletes do both. I also know that sport success requires a combination of proper practice, eating, hydrating, and the mental game.
I have written numerous research papers, a skills book (It’s a Mental Thing: Five keys to improving performance and enjoying sport), and a textbook (Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology: Bridging Theory and Application). My research has focused on coaching stress and motivation, regret in sport, playing through pain, team cohesion and various other psychosocial factors that impact sport performance and satisfaction. I do research because it keeps me fresh and ensures I have new ideas to bring to my clients.
I initially did this just for myself, but now I am a huge proponent of the benefits of yoga in everyday life and sport performance. I integrate aspects of this into my sessions and teachings. I also challenge myself to keep learning from these practices because if I’m not challenging myself how can I challenge my clients?
